Virtual Private Network (VPN)

     Virtual Private Network (VPN) creates a connection which is encrypted and safe over a network which is less secure like the internet, a technology is used called virtual private network (VPN). VPN is like a secure tunnel on the internet between the PC and the destinations visit by the user. The virtual private network was created to safely access the business resources and other applications by the branch officers and the remote users.
      For safety confirmation, secure tunnels are used for the data to travel and it is necessary for the user to achieve the VPN access by using the methods of authentication such as tokens and passwords and other identification methods.

     VPN is beneficial for both business and personal use. It is mostly used by the organizations like to provide its clients base an infrastructure of the secure network. Including the benefits of scalability of network and cost saving for the organization, the clients access the VPN networks also because it is easy to use.
Workers can connect to the company using their laptops at home or anywhere. The data to the user from company travel across the internet but this data cannot be hacked or eavesdropped because of using the internet.
It is also beneficial for the personal use of using a smartphone in public Wi-fi hotspot such as in the hotel. The personal activities can be monitored and information can be gathered. Similarly, because of open network nature, online banking and shopping are not safe. So by using VPN the security is boosted up as the encrypted communication is not sensed by the hackers.

Limitations of a VPN
     1. VPN Security and Design: Because of its complex implementation of design and security a professional with the high level of understanding is needed.
     2. Mobile workers and VPNs: To initiate a connectivity between mobile and VPN the security issue can be caused because of the wireless connection.
     3. Reliability: The Internet-based VPNs reliability and performance is not controlled directly by the organization.

     Relationship between Encryption and VPNs
     Encryption is the encoding process and VPN is like the tunnel in which the data is being encrypted. The data is encrypted between the VPN server and client. The relationship between VPN and encryption is that VPN protects data using encryption. To apply the encryption a pair of keys are needed by the VPN. These keys are the protocols like internet protocol security is used by the site to site VPN.
